Victims of Yahya Jammeh regime in The Gambia
For 22 years, President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia, West Africa brutally ruled the smallest country on mainland Africa, until he lost the December 2016 election to Adama Barrow. Only now are many of Jammeh?s human rights violations coming to light, and only now can people speak freely of what they went through. The portraits (an ongoing project) are of people from a cross section of Gambian society who fell afoul of Jammeh?s brutal security machine, including government employees, police officers, activists, human rights lawyers, businessmen, environmentalist, musicians and journalists.
