Joseph Sywenkyj, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, has been pursuing a long- term documentary in Ukraine since 2000 related to the |
| various health
crises facing the nation. Over the past four years he has been concentrating his camera on a family living with HIV in Odessa. Sywenkyj is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including: a 2003-04 Fulbright Grant, a 2001 Visual Arts Foundation Grant, and several grants from Kodak Professional. He also appeared in the 2003 PDN’s 30 issue. Furthermore, he was a participant in the 2002 World Press Photo Masterclass. His photographs have been published in several books including Pandemic Facing AIDS and New York 24/7. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and venues including the UN Visitors’ Lobby in New York and the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. Photographs have appeared in: The New Yorker, The New York Times, Newsweek, US News & World Report, Forbes, Fortune, Information Week, The Financial Times, and Korrespondent (Ukraine) among others. Sywenkyj currently divides his time between Kyiv, Ukraine and New York City. |
