Stephen Ferry Awarded in POYi

Congratulations to Stephen Ferry, one of three photojournalists awarded the 2007 Alicia Patterson Foundation Fellowships. Ferry has been awarded the grant to pursue his story, “Terror and Civic Resistance in Colombia: Lessons from a Forgotten War.”



Stephen Ferry photographs Venezuela for the April edition of GEO magazine. Although the country has the largest oil reserves of the western world, more than half of all humans in poverty lives in Venezuela. President Hugo Chávez looks to Cuba dictator Fidel Casto for inspiration in creating “21st Century Socialism.”
The POYi awards were announced this week.
Roger Lemoyne won the First Place World Understanding Award for his story “Democratic Republic of the Congo”.
Roger also won Second Place for Magazine Spot News for a picture from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. (view the whole story)
Pieter ten Hoopen of partner Moment Agency won First Place for Magazine General Reporting for his coverage of the earthquake in Pakistan.
Redux photographer Stephen Ferry won Second Place for Magazine General Reporting for his coverage of killings at the hands of the United Self-Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC), a right-wing paramilitary group in Colombia.
