My God It's Full of Stars, a collaborative project by Kevin Cooley and Phillip Andrew Lewis, opens at Pierogi in Brooklyn, NY on Friday, June 13th from 7-9pm.
In My God, It’s Full of Stars, collaborative team Kevin Cooley and Phillip Andrew Lewis expand the production of a common object, a vinyl record, into a metaphor for the cosmos. In distilling the malleability of vinyl to the properties of carbon — the building block of life — the artists probe the dynamics of the universe and ask fundamental questions about its origin and evolution. The exhibition celebrates the release of Harmony of the Spheres, a limited edition long play record box set, and an exhibition of new artwork created during the manufacturing of this experimental phonograph.

Please join Kevin Cooley and Phillip Andrew Lewis for the opening reception of UNEXPLORED TERRITORY on January 11th, 2014 from 6-8PM at Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles.
"UNEXPLORED TERRITORY is an interdisciplinary campaign charting the limits of human exploration and our desire to conquer and control nature. Working with a set of themes ranging from early control of fire, colonial exploration of the American West, harnessing fire in the form of combustion to launch rockets into space, to anthropomorphic actions of everyday objects such as box fans, and helium balloons, this body of work exposes a layered relationship between technology's abstractions and certain universal truths. Encompassing photographs, photograms, videos, and works on paper, this collection of disparate, yet interconnected work is an attempt to understand how everything has the potential to be simultaneously beautiful and destructive. Through figurative and metaphorical gestures and the power of direct representation, the artists' work navigates this terrain without repetition of subject matter, offering the viewer a multifaceted window into their artistic space."
